What is tooth extraction?
Tooth extraction means completely removing any tooth from the bony socket. Due to the nature of the procedure, it is performed using local anesthesia. It can be performed due to a host of dental conditions, which can be very basic or complex. Though not much aftercare is required initially, you can take medications to reduce the pain. 

Majorly there are two types of tooth exactions:

• Simple Extraction

In this type of extraction, the tooth can be removed with much effort and performed with dental instruments.There is no bone cutting involved.

Some gum diseases that go to an advanced stage have teeth falling off or become loose on their own and sometimes require extraction.

Procedure for tooth extraction?
Here is the procedure for removing the tooth, which can be unique to the location of the teeth as well. Generally, these are the steps that are followed:

Step 1: The dentist will determine the exact procedure of the tooth extraction by running a few tests and then doing an X-Ray. Then local anesthesia will be given to the patient for a painless experience. 

Step 2: When the anesthesia does its job, the dentist will bring out all the tools and sanitize them well. A tool called an elevator would be used to make the tooth lose its socket. Another tool called forceps will help to completely remove the tooth. 

Step 3: When the tooth is removed, the dentist might use stitches to close the exposed area. Stitches are dissolvable and do not require a post-treatment. 

Step 4: After the patient wakes, they and their family will be thoroughly guided with the instructions and post-operative care. This can include the medicines' names, dosage, foods to take and avoid, and the amount of rest required. Generally, an ice pack is given to reduce swelling and pain. Also, saltwater rinses are advised for better oral hygiene. 

Step 5: After that, you will need a follow-up appointment to ensure the healing is proper and for further evaluation.

• Saltwater rinses

Saltwater is known to reduce inflammation, and combined with warm water, it can also remove any impurities in the mouth.

• Medication 

Anti-inflammatory and painkillers are generally recommended to curb the pain and reduce swelling. 

• Gentle brushing

It is advised not to brush the teeth harshly as it can strain the extraction area, which can cause bleeding and pain.
